認識jerry是在兩年前，當時是去報導一場叫做“讓英語不再是我們永遠的痛”的演講會，主講人就是英語奇才jerrydai。説起來也許你不相信，原本是工作原因，想着拍個新聞照片就走人，而jerry在台上充滿活力、激情四射的演講在開場的10分鐘就引起我極大的共鳴和興趣。結果我不僅聽完了整個演講，在回家的路上竟然還滿腦子想着一定要把自己的英語按照jerry的辦法提高提高。
能將一場如何學好純正英語的演講變得如此生動精彩，想必這個80年代生的小夥子背後一定有很多自己的故事。當天在後台我就跟jerry説要作他的專訪。可是慚愧啊慚愧，這採訪一拖就是一年。今個暖冬的第一場大雪後，我們終於約定了採訪時間，有機會認識了一個舞台下和教室外的jerry。
坐在對面的jerry雖然身着正裝，帶了副斯文的眼鏡，卻絲毫掩飾不了爍爍發光的.眼神裏透出的一種“新鮮氣質”。怎麼説呢，那是一種靈氣。採訪當然是用中文進行的（如果用英文估計我聽懂的也就80%）。jerry的國語、英語、甚至連他自己一説都笑得不行的東北土話都説得相當“正宗”。這真是一個語言天才！我想。
我不是一個語言天才
“我其實不是一個語言天才。”jerry坐下來説的第一句話就把我的想法給否決了。
jerry來加拿大才六年多，年少成長的一大段日子都在中國，接受的是典型的中國式敎育。所學的英語大部分只是死記硬背的單詞和應試技巧。到了這個陌生的國度，他自己講的英語別人聽不懂，而別人的話他也是一知半解，他感覺好像突然與外界有了隔閡。
儘管在出國前有着雄心壯志，jerry卻因為不能與人溝通，渾身縱有使不完的力氣也無濟於事。於是，他下定決心苦攻英語。“語言根本不是靠天賦的！”jerry又説，“學英語的過程其實是一個自我挑戰的艱辛歷程。”
當初他並不知從何入手。為了練英語，他想方設法去找當地人聊天，試來試去結果是碰一鼻子灰。他總是先在腦子裏用中文想好要説的話，再找到相應的英文單詞，然後用所學的語法去套出要講的英文句子。如此下來，説出去的句子結結巴巴，常常他還沒説完，對方早把話搶了過去，語速飛快地又丟過來一大堆話。這樣的話他當然聽不明白，而“pardon”多了也不是辦法，結果對方早已失去了交談的興趣，而他自己也信心盡失。
但他不是輕易放棄的人。jerry想，不如試試退回來“閉門造車”練英語。自從有了這種“頓悟”，他開始把自己當作一個牙牙學語的孩子，完全用耳朵去感受純正的發音，去捕捉一個個單詞的開音合音、脣音齒音，去熟悉一個個句子的抑揚頓挫。
jerry説，在開始的大半年裏，他發痴似地尋找英語中每一個準確的發音部位，然後一遍遍地模仿。有時為了一個單詞的準確發音，要練上一千多遍。他説，這真是個很痛苦的過程。
這期間，他做了很多旁人認為是“crazy”的事情，比如：刻意只看英文電視報紙，不交中國朋友，把電腦裝成英文系統，甚至把自己關在房間裏大聲跟電視主持人練發音等。jerry説，這樣做了一段時間的確有了成效，而不只有他可以做到這些事情，任何人都可以，但是有個前提條件，就是：“onlyifyoureallywantto!”
